Essentials and Smart Tech are both complete frog habitats.
They differ in how observation, learning, and participation are made available.
Both Models Start With Habitat
Every Froggy Fort is built around one principle: habitat comes first.
Both Essential and Smart Tech models provide complete, biologically informed habitat designed to support native frogs in real backyard conditions. Frogs are free to come and go naturally. There is no enclosure and no captivity.
What Both Models Include
- Protective shelter to reduce heat stress, dehydration, and predation
- Water access shaped for amphibian safety
- Insect-attracting UV lights to support natural feeding behavior
- Low-impact exterior lighting for in-person viewing
- Placement options for different homes and landscapes
The difference isn’t whether the habitat works. It’s how you want to observe, learn, and participate.
Essentials Models
Complete habitat support with simple, reliable operation.
Essential Models are designed to support native frogs through simple, reliable habitat design. They provide shelter, water access, and natural feeding opportunities without cameras, apps, or connectivity.
They are fully functional habitats designed to work quietly and independently.
How Essential Models Operate
Essential Models use preset micro-timers to manage lighting automatically.
This includes:
- UV lighting that attracts insects during appropriate feeding periods
- Low-impact exterior lighting that softly illuminates the habitat for in-person viewing
All lighting cycles are predefined and do not require user input, apps, or adjustments. Once installed, the habitat functions on its own.
Essential Models Are a Good Fit If You:
- Want to support native frogs without added technology
- Prefer a simple, low-maintenance solution
- Enjoy observing wildlife in person
- Are focused on habitat rather than data collection
Essential Models are ideal for people who want conservation to happen naturally - whether they’re watching or not.
Smart Tech Models
Habitat-first design with protected observation and learning tools.
Smart Tech Models combine complete frog habitat design with carefully governed technology that allows activity to be observed, studied, and shared without disrupting natural behavior. Cameras, sensors, and connectivity operate within strict guardrails, ensuring the habitat always functions first and foremost as a refuge for frogs.
Technology exists to reveal nature - not to manage it.
How Smart Tech Models Operate
All biologically sensitive systems in Smart Tech Models are governed by the Froggy Forts platform.
This includes:
- UV insect-attracting lights that follow biologically informed schedules
- Habitat lighting designed to support natural activity cycles
- Audio features used responsibly during relevant seasonal periods
Users do not manually control habitat functions.
What Smart Tech Models Add
- Integrated cameras for live and recorded viewing
- Audio recording to capture frog calls and soundscapes
- Motion detection to document activity without constant lighting
- App connectivity for viewing, playback, and notifications
- Optional participation in a global Froggy Forts community
Exterior viewing lights can be manually activated for short-term, in-person observation.
Smart Tech Models Are a Good Fit If You:
- Want to observe frogs remotely or at night
- Are learning with kids, students, or classrooms
- Are interested in citizen science and species monitoring
- Enjoy sharing observations and contributing to research
Smart Tech Models make conservation visible - while letting nature remain in control.
What’s the Difference, at a Glance
Both models support native frogs. The difference is how much visibility, learning, and participation you want as a human.

Choosing the Right Model
Both Essential and Smart Tech models are complete habitat systems designed to support native frogs.
The right choice depends on how you want to participate.
Some people prefer a simple, low-maintenance habitat that works quietly in the background. Others want to observe activity, learn from what they see, and participate in broader conservation efforts.
Neither choice is better.
Both support restoration.
Choose Essential if you want to:
- Support native frogs with minimal technology
- Rely on automatic operation without apps or screens
- Observe frogs in person and on nature’s schedule
- Focus on habitat over data
Choose Smart Tech if you want to:
- Observe frogs remotely or at night
- Learn from activity through video and audio
- Participate in citizen science and shared learning
- Connect with a global community of frog enthusiasts
Whichever model you choose, you’re helping restore small pieces of habitat - one backyard at a time.
Placement Options
Froggy Forts are designed to adapt to different homes, landscapes, and frog behavior.
At launch, Froggy Forts are available in two primary placement options. Additional mounting accessories are in development and will be offered separately in the future.
Available Now
Ground Placement
Designed to sit directly in gardens, yards, and shaded outdoor areas. Ground placement integrates naturally into soil, mulch, and vegetation, supporting frogs and toads that move at ground level while remaining accessible to tree frog species that shelter near the ground.
Window / Wall Placement
Designed to mount on exterior walls or windows. When installed on a window, this option allows people inside the home to observe frogs directly through the glass without disturbing the habitat.
Both window and wall mounting hardware are included.
In Development
Pole Mount Accessory
A future accessory designed to allow flexible placement in open areas or near water features where wall or ground placement isn’t ideal.
Tree Mount Accessory
A future accessory designed to support elevated placement near trees or vegetation, allowing frogs to move naturally between ground-level and elevated shelter.
These accessories will be offered separately and are being developed as part of the same modular system.
The habitat stays the same. Placement evolves.
